Angus Campbell ESQ - Lord Lieutenant for Dorset

Angus Campbell was raised and educated in North Dorset and Devon. He emigrated to New Zealand in 1970 to work for the Auckland Herd Improvement Association where he gained his Private Pilot’s Licence. After two years, Angus returned to the UK and was commissioned into the Army as one of the first direct-entry Army Air Corps Pilots serving in West Germany, United Nations Cyprus, Northern Ireland, Canada and finally as Second in Command of 16 Flight Army Air Corps in Cyprus.

After retiring from his Short Service Commission, he returned to the family farm to focus on his interests of farming and local politics. He served as Leader of both North Dorset District and Dorset County Councils, standing down from the latter in 2013. Whilst serving within Local Government in Dorset, Angus chaired the Strategic Leaders Board for the South West and represented the South West on the Local Government Association’s Executive Board.

He was also Chairman of the Dorset Olympic Board (2006 - 2012) with responsibility for the delivery of the Olympic Sailing Events in Weymouth and Portland in Summer 2012. Angus lives with his wife Carola in Iwerne Minster and has two daughters.

As an ex-military pilot, I have the greatest respect for the versatility of the helicopter and its adaptation for casualty evacuation, having been part of a team that ran a very basic service in Cyprus, and indeed, on one occasion in Canada."
